ADVENTURA 1 - Eleuthera & Harbour Island
The *Adventura 1* isn't your typical Caribbean wreck. It’s more of a scattered art installation, really, lying in a ridiculously shallow five metres of water just off Eleuthera. We love it precisely because it’s not some grand, intact vessel. Instead, it’s a collection of pieces – old engines, hull plates, twisted metal – spread across a sandy bottom. The beauty here is in the details, and the light. Sunlight streams through the water, illuminating every rusted curve and crevice. You can spend a good hour just finning slowly, tracing the outlines of what was once a fishing boat. Look closely, and you’ll spot juvenile barracuda lurking in the shadows, or a grumpy looking snapper peeking out from under a plate. The corals have started to colonise the metal, creating these vibrant, miniature reefscapes on what was once industrial steel. It’s an easy dive, perfect for a long, relaxed snorkel or a final, shallow safety stop. Our favourite time to visit is mid-morning, when the sun is high but the boat traffic hasn't quite picked up.

Wreck History - ADVENTURA 1
- Vessel Type
- boat
- Cause
- unknown
The history of the Adventura 1 is shrouded in mystery, with no records of its sinking date or original purpose. What is known is that it now lies in the crystal-clear shallows off Eleuthera, classified as a 'dangerous wreck' due to its proximity to the surface. Lying at a mere 5 metres, this site is a snorkeler's paradise and an ideal first wreck dive for new scuba enthusiasts. The shallow depth allows for long bottom times and excellent light penetration, illuminating the wreckage and the vibrant marine life that has claimed it. The broken structure provides a complex habitat for schools of colourful reef fish, crustaceans, and corals, transforming a maritime loss into a thriving underwater ecosystem.
