Casa del Mundo - Lake Atitlan

Foggy Shark Cave is one of those Sydney sites that really delivers when conditions line up. Dropping over the edge where those two cliffs meet, you’ll find the cave itself at about 18 metres. It’s not a deep penetration, more of an overhang really, but that’s where the action is. From March to June, it's a reliable spot for gray nurse sharks. We’ve noticed more juvenile gray nurses sticking around through summer lately, which is a welcome bonus. The real trick here is timing your dive around slack tide; otherwise, you're fighting a pretty decent push. Visibility averages 11 metres, but on a good day, when the sun's high, the light filtering in makes the whole place glow with blues and greens. Look out into the blue for bronze whalers cruising past, and keep an eye on the cave floor for spotted wobbegongs tucked into the sand. This site suits experienced divers comfortable with surge and keeping an eye on their air.
