DA MEO PATACCA - Naples & Campania
Okay, Da Meo Patacca. This isn’t a shallow splash, so bring your deep cert and maybe a bit of gas. We love this wreck not just for the depth, but for the story you feel down there. It’s a proper motor vessel, sunk in Gaeta Bay, and at 60 metres, it’s a quiet, solemn place. Descending, the Mediterranean blue gives way to that deep indigo, and then the silhouette starts to form. You’ll see the bow first, often pointing slightly upwards, and the whole vessel lies relatively intact, which is a real treat at this depth. Our favourite part? The way the light filters down, playing across the deck structures, highlighting the growth that’s taken hold. Expect to see schools of barracuda circling, almost like sentinels, and often some bigger grouper lurking in the darker recesses. It feels like stepping back in time, the ship silently holding court on the seabed. This is a site for experienced divers who appreciate history, deep diving, and the unique marine life that colonises a wreck in the cooler, darker depths. The currents can be temperamental, so we’d suggest checking conditions with a local dive centre before heading out.
