Relitto Nicole - Naples & Campania

The Relitto Nicole, off the coast of Naples, is a real character of a wreck. We’d suggest you treat her like an old friend; she’s not the biggest, but she’s certainly got stories. Sunk during World War II, this cargo ship now lies upright, broken into two main sections, giving you plenty of nooks and crannies to poke your head into. As you descend, the Mediterranean light filters through the water, illuminating the hull's outline. We love how the metalwork is draped in orange and yellow gorgonians, a stark contrast to the rust. Keep an eye out for conger eels peering from the deeper recesses and octopuses tucked into crevices, their skin rippling with camouflage. Clouds of damselfish hover above the decking, darting into the superstructure if you get too close. This site is perfect for those who appreciate a wreck with a genuine sense of history and enjoy a relaxed, exploratory dive rather than a deep, challenging one. It's a photographer's dream, especially on a sunny day when the light plays off the marine growth. We find the mid-morning, before any afternoon chop picks up, is usually the calmest.
