Relitto Potho - Naples & Campania

There’s a reason we keep coming back to the Relitto Potho, even with so many other Mediterranean wrecks to explore. This isn’t just a pile of metal; it’s a time capsule, a real window into wartime history just off the coast of Capri. The wreck itself, a large cargo ship sunk in 1943, sits upright and largely intact, inviting you to peek into its past. We love dropping down onto the deck, maybe 12-15 metres deep, and seeing the massive davits still angled as if they’re about to launch lifeboats. Venturing into the holds is a definite highlight. Light streams in through gaps, illuminating schools of inquisitive glasseyes that dart away as you fin past. Look for the resident scorpionfish, perfectly camouflaged on the rusted bulkheads, or octopus peeking from nooks. On a good visibility day, which the Tyrrhenian Sea often delivers, the sheer scale of the Potho is impressive as you ascend, seeing the whole stern section disappear into the blue. It’s a site that rewards multiple dives, each time revealing another detail you missed before. We’d suggest going early in the morning to avoid any boat traffic.
