TRANS MET - Naples & Campania

The Trans Met sits upright on a sandy bottom at 40 metres, a purposeful addition to the underwater landscape, scuttled by the Italian authorities back in '87 to create new habitat. And habitat it has become. We love how the wheelhouse and bridge are still largely intact; they’re often our favourite parts to explore, letting us imagine the ship's final moments before the scuttling charge went off. The entire superstructure is blanketed in a thick growth of yellow sponges and gorgonians, bright bursts of colour against the ship’s dark steel. Look inside the holds, open and inviting, and you'll often find conger eels peering out from shadowed corners, while large schools of barracuda frequently circle overhead, glinting in the shafts of sunlight that penetrate the deep blue. This is a dive for experienced wreck enthusiasts who appreciate a vessel with character and a healthy dose of marine colonisation, rather than pristine coral. We’d suggest a double tank for some proper exploration.
