VERGINE DI POMPEI II - Naples & Campania

The Vergine di Pompei II isn't your average Mediterranean wreck. We love it because it’s surprisingly intact, sitting upright on the seabed at a comfortable 20 metres. You can really get a sense of its past as a motor vessel, with the bow and stern still well-defined. Sunlight filters through the water, illuminating the main deck, where you’ll often spot shoals of damselfish darting in and out of the superstructure. What makes this wreck a standout for us is the way marine life has completely taken over. Scorpionfish blend seamlessly with the algae-covered metal, and we've spotted octopuses tucked into every crevice imaginable. Look closely in the hold areas – they offer perfect hideouts for conger eels, usually just their heads peeking out. It's an easy dive, suitable for Open Water divers looking for a proper wreck experience without tricky currents or extreme depths. We’d suggest going in the morning; the visibility tends to be at its best then, and the light plays beautifully off the metal.
