Cominoland Wreck - Gozo

The Cominoland wreck, just off Xatt l-Aħmar, is one of our favourite dives in Gozo, especially when we’re looking for something a bit deeper without going technical. This former ferry was scuttled in 2006, sitting upright on a sandy bottom at around 40 metres. You descend down the shot line, and she slowly materialises out of the blue, looming larger and larger, her sheer size always a bit of a surprise. We love exploring the car deck, where light filters in through the windows, creating an eerie, almost cathedral-like glow. There’s plenty to poke around in. Keep an eye out for resident groupers sheltering in the deeper sections, and we’ve often found scorpionfish camouflaged on the decks. The bow is particularly photogenic, often covered in orange cup corals, and you’ll usually spot schools of small damselfish flitting around the mast. The Cominoland suits experienced divers comfortable with depth and overhead environments, as penetration is possible through the car deck and engine room for those with the right training. We’d suggest going early to avoid other dive boats, giving you the wreck mostly to yourselves.
