GYOSHIN MARU (BOW) - Tioman Island

The Gyoshin Maru wreck, specifically the bow section, offers a stark, haunting dive. We’re not talking vibrant corals here; this is about the sheer history of the place. Dropping down to 20 metres, you hit the huge, upright bow, covered in a thick fuzz of hydroids and soft corals, a real contrast to the metal structure. You’ll spot schools of fusiliers darting in and out, and often a few resident batfish will greet you, curious and bold. It feels like swimming through a moment frozen in time, a tangible piece of history reclaimed by the ocean. Currents here can be a bit cheeky, so we always suggest checking conditions with your local dive shop. We love how much of the original structure is still identifiable – the anchor chains are impressive, and you can even make out the deck gun mount. It’s a site that really makes you think about the past, and it’s a brilliant dive for those who appreciate wrecks with a bit of a story and don't mind a bit of a challenge.
