MAHAMIRU (PROBABLY) - Tioman Island

Mahamiru (probably) feels like we're diving into a proper mystery. It’s an old minesweeper, ex-HMS Darlaston, built in '53, then sold to the Malaysian Navy. She's sitting upright, around 45 metres, a good deep dive. The mahogany hull, once copper-sheathed, is still largely intact, a rare sight for a wooden wreck. We love how the structure draws you in, exploring the deck and superstructure, imagining her naval past. This wreck has become a home, thick with schooling yellowtail barracuda that swirl around the mast. Look for the massive groupers tucked into crevices, and we’ve seen eagle rays glide past on a few occasions. The deep location means cooler water and usually clearer visibility, which really helps with the atmosphere. Our pick for experienced divers who appreciate history and don't mind the depth. Don't rush it; there's a lot to take in here.
