MITRA BAHARI III - Tioman Island

Mitra Bahari III is a deep, upright wreck, a cargo vessel that went down in the late 90s, and it’s a site we always make time for when we're in Tioman. Dropping down, you’ll find the entire structure coated in growth – corals, sponges, and hydroids have just smothered the metal. We’ve seen colossal groupers lurking in the shadows of the wheelhouse, and schools of fusiliers are so thick they often block the light as you move along the deck. What we really love about Mitra Bahari III is the way the fish life has just integrated with the wreck. Look closely and you’ll spot crocodile fish camouflaged on the hull, and often a turtle or two will be grazing on the sponges near the stern. It’s a dive for those comfortable with depth, sitting around 55 meters, and the visibility can vary, so pick a calm day. Early morning dives here are our favourite; the light filtering down through the water column really makes the colours pop. Just remember to keep an eye on your bottom time.
