EIYO MARU - Nha Trang

The Eiyo Maru is our favourite wreck in Nha Trang, hands down. Yes, it’s a deep dive, pushing 40 metres, but for those with the training, it’s absolutely worth the bottom time. This Japanese tanker, torpedoed in 1945, rests upright and largely intact, a testament to its formidable size – 140 metres long. Descending onto the main deck, you immediately feel the scale of the disaster, the sheer tonnage of the steel. We love exploring the huge cargo holds, now open to the blue, where schools of fusiliers swirl so thick they momentarily block the light. Keep an eye on the deck for octopus and the occasional large grouper lurking in the shadows. Penetration isn't really an option here, not safely anyway, but there's plenty to see on the exterior, especially around the stern with its massive rudder and prop. The engine room superstructure is also fascinating, a jumble of twisted metal colonised by sponges and colourful soft corals. This site really suits experienced wreck divers who appreciate history and a bit of a challenge.
