Gleana (aka Kevin's Wreck) - North Shore

Gleana, or Kevin’s Wreck as we know it, is a Bermuda classic. We love how accessible it is, sitting in a mere two metres of water right off the North Shore. You can practically just wade in and snorkel it, but getting in the full kit and doing a proper dive lets you really appreciate the scale and the resident characters. She’s an old dredging barge, scuttled back in 1991, and now she’s completely broken up. What’s left is a jumble of metal plates and beams, but it’s a brilliant habitat. We always find green moray eels tucked into the crevices, often a few of them eyeing you suspiciously. Barracuda hang motionless above the bigger sections, catching the light just so. The metalwork is completely encrusted with sponges and soft corals, painting what was once industrial grey in a riot of purples and yellows. Look closely for juvenile drum fish hiding in the shadows. It’s not a deep, dramatic wreck, but for sheer convenience and consistent wildlife, it’s one of our favourite easy dives in Bermuda.
