Fantasea Diving and Watersports - North Shore

Thorn Rock can be a surprisingly vibrant dive if you catch it right, though you’ll need to manage Alaska’s notoriously brisk temperatures. The rock walls here are home to some impressive sunflower stars, their multiple arms spreading wide across the substrate. We've seen good numbers of Dungeness and Red Rock crabs scuttling about, and the occasional Big Skate cruises by, a real treat to spot. It’s a site that rewards a patient, keen eye, rather than promising big pelagics. Definitely one for the drysuit crowd who appreciate the subtler beauty of a colder temperate reef.
