NORTH CAROLINA - North Shore

The North Carolina, she’s a proper old girl, sunk back in 1880, and sitting pretty shallow at just 10 metres off Bermuda's North Shore. We love this site for its accessibility and the sheer sense of history you get down there. You’re finning over a 62-metre iron steamer, broken into distinct sections, which makes for some fantastic exploring. What you'll find is the bow and stern largely intact, with a scattering of her midsection spread across the sandy bottom. It’s not a deep dive, so you get plenty of bottom time to really take in the details: the huge anchor chains, the massive boiler, and the ghostly ribs of her hull. Schools of iridescent parrotfish graze right around you, and we’ve spotted plenty of spiny lobsters tucked into the nooks and crannies. For photographers, the ambient light is usually fantastic, illuminating the wreck beautifully, especially if you hit it mid-morning. It's a perfect site for newer wreck divers or those looking for a relaxed dive with a tangible link to Bermuda's maritime past.
