Sentan - Izu Peninsula

Sentan, up on the east coast of the Izu Peninsula, is one of those dives that sticks with you. It’s a completely different vibe from the tropical stuff, colder water but so much character. We love it for the sheer variety of weird and wonderful critters you just don't find elsewhere. Think shaggy Sargassum nudibranchs camouflaged perfectly in the kelp, little Short-head Sabretooth Blennies poking out of holes, and if you’re lucky, a Birdbeak Dogfish skulking on the bottom. Our favourite part is the topography; it’s rocky, full of crevices and overhangs where you can really slow down and hunt for things. We’ve found everything from those tiny Hair Tailed Blennies to surprisingly large Indo-Pacific sergeants darting around. It’s an ideal spot for macro photographers or anyone who enjoys a proper treasure hunt rather than just cruising along. Don't expect huge schools of fish, but do expect something unique. Go on a sunny day if you can, the light through the kelp forest is incredible.
