HUEY FUH NO 12 - Kenting National Park

Diving the Huey Fuh No. 12, a former fishing vessel, always feels like stepping into a cold case. She went down hard in ’95, caught in a typhoon with her sister ship, No. 11. Twenty-one lost, thirteen missing – it’s a sombre reminder of the ocean's power. We usually drop onto the main deck at around 20 metres, the hull plates now a patchwork of sponge and soft coral. You can still make out the superstructure, though time and current have rounded the edges. Schools of bigeye trevally often circle the bow, almost forming a silver curtain, and we’ve seen marble rays cruising the sandy bottom just off the stern. Our favourite part is the engine room access, a tight squeeze but the light shafts through the upper deck are incredible, illuminating swarms of glassfish. This site isn't for those seeking pristine coral, it’s for divers who appreciate history, a bit of an eerie vibe, and don't mind a strong surge on occasion. Go early; the visibility tends to hold better before the afternoon winds pick up.
