DEMOSTHENES - Grande Comore
Demosthenes isn't your average wreck dive; it’s more of a history lesson you can swim through. This isn’t deep, just a couple of metres, which means the natural light really brings out the textures of the old steamship. You can easily spend an hour just finning around the superstructure, spotting where the mast once stood or tracing the lines of the deck. We love that you can see almost the entire 100-metre length of her, scattered across the shallows. What really makes it special for us is how the reef has taken over. Schools of yellowfin goatfish dart between twisted metal plates, and parrotfish graze on the algae growing across the hull. It’s an ideal spot for macro photographers, with nudibranchs and flatworms tucked into every crevice. We’d suggest going at high tide for the best visibility, but honestly, it’s a site that rewards repeat visits. Demosthenes is brilliant for snorkelers and divers who appreciate a slow, investigative dive, rather than a deep, fast drift.
