KAMAL-EL-KUWAIT - Grande Comore
The Kamal-El-Kuwait wreck is a real oddity, and that’s why we love it. This isn't some deep, dark behemoth. Instead, it’s a landing craft, sitting upright in a startlingly shallow 5 metres of water, almost beaching itself. We’re talking about an entire ship, practically at snorkel depth, and it means you get fantastic light play filtering through the superstructure. You can spend an entire hour just poking around the cargo hold and the wheelhouse, seeing how the light dances off the rusted metal. Our favourite thing about the Kamal-El-Kuwait is its accessibility and the way the marine life has completely taken over. Schools of snapper and small fusiliers swirl around the bow, and we’ve spotted plenty of moray eels peeking out from under the deck plates. It’s ideal for photographers looking for interesting compositions without the pressure of deep diving or strong currents. For anyone who usually feels rushed on deeper wreck dives, this one is a joy – you have all the time in the world to explore every nook and cranny. Keep an eye out for the small nudibranchs that often cling to the more exposed metalwork.
