VOLJAK - Dubrovnik & South Coast

Voljak is one of our favourite wreck dives along the Dubrovnik coast, especially for those looking for something a little deeper. This old cargo vessel went down in 1967, hitting the coast during a thick fog. She now sits upright on a sandy bottom at 50 metres, a ghostly silhouette emerging from the blue. What makes Voljak special? It's the integrity of the wreck. You can still make out the distinct features of the wheelhouse, the cargo holds, and even the mast structure reaching up. We love finning along her deck, watching the schools of damselfish dart in and out of the superstructure. Scorpionfish often perch camouflaged on the hull, and octopuses sometimes peek out from the darker recesses. The visibility here is often fantastic, giving you plenty of time to appreciate the scale of her. It’s a dive best suited for experienced divers comfortable with depth and perhaps a bit of current, which can pick up occasionally. We’d suggest going early in the morning for the calmest conditions.
