Lyman Davis - Ontario Great Lakes

We’ve dived a lot of wrecks in the Great Lakes, but the *Lyman Davis* is a real standout for us. It’s not just the sheer size, though at 50 meters long, she’s impressive. What we love is how intact she is, even after all these years at the bottom of Lake Ontario. We usually drop down to the bow, which sits upright, and just take a moment to absorb the scale of it. The masts are still largely there, reaching up into the gloom, and the sheer amount of deck machinery - winches, cleats, anchor chains - makes for a fascinating exploration. You'll find schools of perch and burbot often sheltering in the shadowed cargo holds. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a freshwater drum, lurking in the deeper sections. Our favourite part has to be the stern, where the rudder and propeller are still in place, almost as if she’s waiting to sail again. We’d suggest multiple dives here; there's just too much to take in on a single descent. This wreck is perfect for divers who appreciate history and enjoy the quiet, deep exploration that freshwater diving offers. Just be prepared for cooler temperatures and variable visibility, which is typical for the Lakes, but it's always worth it for a wreck this good.
