Nimrod Wreck - Ontario Great Lakes
The Nimrod Wreck in the Great Lakes isn't just a dive, it's a step into a watery time capsule. We love how the cold freshwater has preserved this schooner, keeping it largely intact unlike so many saltwater wrecks. Dropping down, you're greeted by a remarkably complete hull, her mast still reaching towards the surface, albeit broken. Our favourite part has to be the deck; you can practically trace the crew's movements, imagining the life led aboard. Penetrating the Nimrod is a real treat for experienced wreck divers. We’d suggest bringing a good torch – the cabins are dark, but the beams of light reveal old tools and the occasional ceramic plate, giving you that tangible connection to its past. Look out for the resident burbot and freshwater drum that often lurk in the shadowed corners of the cargo hold. Visibility here can vary, but on a good day, the sense of scale is immense as you cruise the length of the ship, feeling the chill of the deep water, a constant reminder of the lake's power. This is a dive for those who appreciate history and don't mind the cold.
