Tiller Wreck - Ontario Great Lakes

The Tiller Wreck is one of those Great Lakes dives that sticks with you. Dropping down, the first thing you notice is the sheer scale of the thing. This isn't just a pile of wood; it's a real ship, sitting upright, with its structure largely intact. We love the way the light filters through the tannin-stained water, giving the whole wreck an ethereal glow, even on a sunny day. Our favourite part has to be exploring the stern, where you can clearly make out the tiller mechanism, still in place, almost begging you to imagine the helmsman’s last moments. It's an easy enough wreck to navigate, even for newer wreck divers, but still offers plenty of penetration opportunities for those with the right training. Keep an eye out for the resident burbot – they love to hang out in the shadowy nooks, and we’ve even seen some sizable lake trout cruising the perimeter. If you’re lucky, you might even spot one of the elusive freshwater jellyfish pulsating gently around the deck. The Tiller is a solid pick for anyone keen on history with a side of genuinely unique freshwater marine life.
