Wexford Wreck - Ontario Great Lakes

The Wexford Wreck, resting in the cool depths of the Great Lakes, offers a genuinely haunting dive. We’ve always been drawn to wrecks that tell a story, and the Wexford, an old package freighter lost in the ‘Great Storm of 1913,’ certainly does. Descending onto her, you can almost feel the weight of history. The visibility here is often impressive, particularly in late summer and early autumn, allowing the details of the broken bow and scattered cargo to really stand out. It’s a proper penetration dive for those with the right training; the engine room and cargo holds are surprisingly intact, a dark labyrinth where the light filters in in eerie shafts. We’ve found huge lake trout cruising the decks, and the zebra mussels, while invasive, have an odd beauty, encrusting every surface and giving the wreck a shimmering, otherworldly sheen. It’s a deep dive, so bring your drysuit and good thermal protection; the water here bites. For experienced cold-water wreck enthusiasts, the Wexford is a profound experience, a silent monument to a devastating storm.
