Willis Wreck - Ontario Great Lakes

The Willis Wreck, resting in the chilly embrace of the Ontario Great Lakes, isn’t some colourful Caribbean reef, and we absolutely love it for that. This isn't about tropical fish, it's about history you can touch. Dropping down onto the deck, you really feel the cold seep into your bones, a reminder of the conditions these ships faced. We particularly enjoy the way the low visibility often plays tricks on you, revealing new sections of the wreck slowly, like a ghost ship emerging from the gloom. Our favourite part has to be exploring the pilot house. It’s still surprisingly intact, offering a real glimpse into the past. Look for the old steering mechanism, sometimes you can even spot a resident burbot or two tucked away inside, making themselves at home. The stern section is also fantastic for penetration, but obviously, only if you’re properly trained and equipped for overhead environments. For those who appreciate the quiet, dramatic beauty of freshwater wrecks and don’t mind a bit of a chill, the Willis offers a truly rewarding dive. It’s a site that demands respect, but gives back a unique experience.
