Black Rock Scuba - Hawaii

The team at Black Rock Scuba operate right off the beach at Ka’anapali, which we love for the sheer convenience. No long boat rides, just a quick giant stride into the ocean. We’ve found them to be brilliant for those looking to get certified, especially if you’re staying at one of the nearby resorts and fancy slipping a PADI Open Water course into your holiday without losing a whole day to travel. They specialise in shore dives directly onto the Black Rock site, a vibrant reef wall that drops to about 30 metres. Our favourite time to dive here is early morning. The light catches the schooling surgeonfish just right, making the water sparkle around them. You’ll often spot green sea turtles cruising along the wall, sometimes even a white-tip reef shark tucked under a ledge if you’re lucky. We always keep an eye out for the small stuff too – the nudibranchs here are surprisingly colourful against the dark volcanic rock. It’s a great spot for an easy, relaxed dive, and the crew are fantastic at making sure everyone feels comfortable, whether you’re a brand new diver or just looking for a chilled-out afternoon plunge.
