JOSEPHINE MARIE (90 ft long steel fishing trawler) - New England
The Josephine Marie wreck is a fantastic New England dive, especially if you’re into proper trawlers. This 90-foot steel vessel sits upright in about 25 metres of water, so it’s a good one for advanced open water divers looking for a bit of penetration without anything too technical. We love dropping down onto her deck and seeing the sheer scale of the fishing gear, the winches and booms still very much present. Our favourite part is the wheelhouse, which you can easily poke your head into. Sunlight often filters through the windows, illuminating the dense cloud of pollock and cunner that swarm inside. Keep an eye out for the big wolfish often tucked into crevices along the hull, their grumpy faces peering out. The visibility can be hit or miss, as it often is in New England, but on a good day, you can see the entire length of the vessel from the stern. We’d suggest going on a slack tide to really enjoy exploring her nooks and crannies without battling the current.
