Mount Hope Tug Boat - New England
New England wreck diving often means cold water and limited visibility, but the Mount Hope Tug Boat delivers. This isn’t a pristine, intact ship, but rather a wonderfully broken-up wreck, a tug that’s seen better days, now scattered across the seabed. We love how the hull plates lie twisted and folded, creating nooks and crannies that are perfect hideouts. You’ll find sculpin tucked into crevices, their camouflaged bodies almost disappearing against the rust. Lobsters are everywhere, peering out from beneath collapsed bulkheads. Our favourite part? The sheer density of invertebrates that have colonised every surface – anemones, sponges, and hydroids giving the metal a colourful, living skin. It’s a dive that rewards careful exploration, sifting through the debris field for smaller critters. This wreck suits divers who appreciate history and don't mind getting up close and personal with the structure, rather than just circling a grand, imposing hulk. It’s a macro playground, really.
