Ocean Beach - New England

Ocean Beach in New England isn't your typical colourful reef dive, and that's exactly why we love it. This is cold water diving at its most honest, a shore entry that rewards those willing to embrace the chill. You’ll suit up on the sand, often with a brisk wind off the Atlantic, before wading in. The visibility here can swing wildly, but on a good day, it opens up to reveal a bustling temperate ecosystem. We've spent hours here, often in less than ideal conditions, spotting Atlantic purple sea urchins clinging to rocks and Flat-clawed Hermit Crabs scuttling across the sand. Look closely for tube pea crabs nestled in their host shells. Our favourite find is always the Black Sea Bass, often hiding in the crevices of scattered rocks. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a harbour porpoise breaking the surface further out. It’s a dive for curious naturalists and those who appreciate the subtle beauty of a hardy, northern ocean. Bring thick gloves and a hood; you’ll thank us later.
