Weetamoo Wreck - New England

The Weetamoo, a wooden schooner sunk over a century ago, is a personal favourite of ours when we're looking for a proper New England wreck dive. It’s not just some scattered debris. You can still make out the hull, the ribs, even parts of the mast, all laid out on a sandy bottom. We love navigating through what’s left of the cargo hold, imagining the ship’s final moments. Sure, it's a deep dive, around 30 metres, which means the water is cold, even in summer. A dry suit is non-negotiable here. But that cold water brings its own magic. Look closely and you'll spot wolfish poking their heads from under beams, huge lobsters tucked into every crevice, and sometimes, a thorny skate gliding over the wreck. The visibility can be fickle, often settling around 5-10 metres, so bringing a good light is key to picking out the details. We'd suggest going on a slack tide, otherwise, the current can make navigating the remains a proper workout. This one is definitely for the experienced wreck diver who appreciates history and the way the sea reclaims things.
