Red Sea Diving Safari - Shagra Village - Deep South
The team at Red Sea Diving Safari - Shagra Village are, in our opinion, some of the best hosts in the Egyptian Red Sea. We've spent many weeks here and always feel like we're coming home. This isn't your typical resort; it’s a village, built with a deep respect for the desert and the sea. You choose your hut, usually a simple but comfortable one with a palm-frond roof, and settle into a rhythm of dive, eat, relax. We love that the house reef is right there, just a short walk from your front door, making early morning dives incredibly easy – we often beat the sun to the water. Diving here is gloriously straightforward. We’ve done countless shore dives on their house reef, which stretches north and south, each direction offering different topography and critters. The south side often has playful spinner dolphins making an appearance early in the morning. Boat dives are available too, of course, heading to deeper, offshore sites. The dive guides are brilliant, relaxed but eagle-eyed for things like the small, striped pygmy pipehorses that hide among the corals. Food is communal, served buffet style, and always plentiful – perfect after a day in the water. For divers who appreciate simplicity, genuine hospitality, and an incredible house reef without the crowds, Shagra Village is our top pick.
