JANGADEIRO - Salvador & Bahia

Jangadeiro isn't about depth, it's about history you can touch. At a mere three meters, this old fishing boat, which ran aground back in 1934, is practically an open-air museum. We love drifting over the exposed hull, watching the sunlight dapple through the shallow water and play across the rusted metal. The wreck itself is well-broken, offering easy swim-throughs and plenty of nooks for macro life. Look closely and you’ll find damselfish darting between the ribs and tiny blennies peering out from crevices. It’s an ideal spot for new divers or anyone keen on a leisurely exploration without the pressure of deep water or strong currents. Our favourite time to visit is late morning when the sun is high, really illuminating the entire wreck and bringing out the colours of the algae and sponges that now coat the structure. It’s also a fantastic site for underwater photography, especially if you’re experimenting with natural light. Jangadeiro proves you don't need a deep dive to find something truly compelling; sometimes, the best stories are just beneath the surface.
