HTMS SONGKHLA - Koh Rong Archipelago

The HTMS Songkhla isn't just any wreck, it's a dive with a story, and frankly, we think it’s one of Cambodia's best. At a gentle 12 metres, it’s perfect for newer wreck divers or anyone looking for a relaxed exploration. What we love most is how approachable it is. You’ll find its history, a former Thai navy patrol boat, written across its deck plates and through the open hatches. Dropping down, the first thing you notice is the sheer scale. It’s a proper vessel, not just a pile of rubble. We always gravitate towards the wheelhouse; it’s largely intact and feels like you’re stepping back in time. Look closely for the barracuda often schooling around the mast, glinting in the shafts of sunlight that pierce the surface. Inside the holds, the light plays tricks, revealing nurse sharks tucked into shadowy corners and schools of snapper darting through the beams. The current here can be a bit frisky, especially around the bow, so pick your day. Our favourite time is early morning, before any boat traffic stirs up the sediment, when the water feels like glass. It’s a fantastic spot for a second dive too, offering a completely different perspective as the sun shifts.
