KOMPOT TRADER - Koh Rong Archipelago
Alright, let’s talk about the Kompot Trader. This isn't your deep, pristine wreck dive; it’s a history lesson sprawled in the shallows. Sunk back in '72, supposedly by plastic explosives, this barge ended up beached and broken, right there on what was then called Kompong Som Beach. Today, it’s a skeleton just a couple of metres deep. What we love about the Kompot Trader is its accessibility and the sheer amount of life that's made a home out of wreckage. The old hull is now a concrete slab of habitat. We've seen schools of juvenile barracuda shimmering around the remains, and our favourite find here is always the resident cuttlefish, often flashing colours as it hunts. Look closely, and you’ll spot nudibranchs, crabs scuttling in crevices, and small reef fish darting amongst the twisted metal. It’s perfect for snorkelers or new divers getting a feel for wrecks without the pressure of depth or strong currents. It’s a gentle introduction to a piece of history, where nature has firmly reclaimed its territory.
