Bango - Sulawesi

Bango in Sulawesi is one of those sites we always think about when we’re dreaming of a proper coral reset. It’s not about pelagics or big action; it’s about getting utterly lost in the smaller details, the kind of macro life that demands you slow right down and really look. We love the way the reef is just blanketed in staghorn coral, creating this intricate, sprawling landscape. It’s a brilliant spot for finding pygmy seahorses, though you’ll need a sharp eye and a patient guide to spot them nestled in the gorgonians. We've found the visibility here can vary, but generally, it's good enough to appreciate the delicate hues of the corals. Keep an eye out for Stobbs' and Wasp Pygmy Gobies, often perched on sponges, tiny flashes of colour. It’s a pretty chill dive, generally light currents, making it perfect for photographers who want to spend time framing shots of tiny nudibranchs or perhaps a High Hat Triplefin. This is the place for divers who appreciate the subtle beauty of a healthy, bustling reef, where the small stuff is the main event.
