Bualo - Sulawesi

Bualo is one of those sites that just feels… *alive*. We’ve drifted this sloping reef several times, and each visit brings something new. The sheer abundance of staghorn coral here is remarkable, forming vast fields that stretch out below you. It’s not just big, it’s intricate, with small reef fish like bristled-toothed surgeonfish darting through every branch. We particularly love the way the light filters through the shallows, illuminating those coral structures. Keep an eye out for the smaller stuff, too. Those tiny wasp pygmy gobies blend in so well you might swim right past them, but they’re worth the patient search. We’ve even been lucky enough to spot whale sharks here, cruising slowly through the open blue. It’s a gentle drift, mostly, making it a really relaxing dive, perfect for photographers or anyone who just wants to soak in a healthy, vibrant reef. Visibility is generally excellent, often pushing 20 metres or more.
