CoDo Reef - Sulawesi

The Grottes de Ferry, it’s fair to say, isn’t about huge pelagics or endless reef walls. Instead, we love it for its intimate charm. You drop down to about 8 metres and immediately feel the cool shadow of the rock overhangs. Inside, the main cavern is wide enough that even a nervous diver feels comfortable, but still dark enough to make your torch beam dance. Look for those hatchet fish, their silvery sides catching the light as they dart in and out of the cracks. We’ve also spotted lionfish tucked into crevices and, occasionally, a big school of blue trevally swirling past the entrance. Follow the cave through, and you emerge into a sunnier patch, shallower at 16 metres, where a seagrass bed sways gently. It’s an easy, relaxing dive, perfect for beginners, or when you just want a peaceful second dive of the day without any big thrills.
