Mike's - Sulawesi

Mike’s in Sulawesi is one of those sites we keep coming back to, mainly because it never disappoints on the weird and wonderful. It’s a photographer’s dream, a veritable macro playground. Drop down and you’re immediately enveloped in a busy, sandy slope dotted with coral bommies, home to an astounding variety of critters. We’ve spent entire dives here within a 20-meter radius, just hunting for the next tiny treasure. Our pick for patience pays off here – don't rush past the seemingly barren patches. We’ve found Pudgy Pygmygobies tucked into sandy crevices, and spotted the striking Tiger Moon Snail leaving its tell-tale trails. Keep an eye out for the High Hat Triplefin, too, a delightful little fish that’s surprisingly hard to spot elsewhere. The nudibranchs are always a highlight; the Bicolor nudibranch is pretty common, but we’ve also stumbled upon the Strawberry Drupe and the Granulated Drupe, which are real finds. The reef sharks, both Whitetips and Blacktips, tend to cruise deeper, offering a fleeting glimpse if you drift further out. Mike's is best for divers who love slow, deliberate explorations and have an eye for the small stuff. It suits intermediate divers comfortable with a potential mild current. Come prepared to spend some serious time peering into every nook and cranny.
