Tanjung Parigi - Sulawesi

Tanjung Parigi often gets overlooked for some of Sulawesi's flashier spots, but that’s a mistake. This is one of those places we return to for its sheer, quiet density of life, particularly if you’re into the smaller stuff. We’ve spent whole dives on a single patch of reef here. The site is a gentle slope, mostly rubble and sand, punctuated by big, healthy patches of staghorn coral. Not the biggest corals you'll ever see, but these are nurseries. Look closely and you’ll find countless juvenile reef fish darting amongst the branches. We particularly love hunting for gobies; the puntang goby and cheekscale dwarfgoby are common here, always perched nervously near their burrowing shrimp companions. The chocolate chip sea stars really pop against the muted seafloor, and the odd small giant clam adds a splash of colour. It’s not a drift dive, which means you can really slow down and appreciate the details. We often see false virgin cones here, just inching across the sand. For photographers, especially macro enthusiasts, it’s golden. No strong currents to fight, just calm water and subjects everywhere you look. It’s perfect for divers who appreciate the subtle beauty of a thriving, quiet ecosystem over dramatic drop-offs, and for those patient enough to really observe. We always end up finding something new.
