Tengah - Sulawesi

Tengah is our pick in Sulawesi, a standout for the sheer volume of healthy staghorn coral. Seriously, it’s everywhere. You descend into what feels like an endless garden, a tangled metropolis of branching coral that stretches out in every direction. It’s not just a few patches; it’s entire fields of it, punctuated by massive table corals that offer shade to schools of cardinalfish. We love dropping in early, just after sunrise, when the light catches the coral just right and the smaller inhabitants are most active. Keep an eye out for the Moorea Pygmygoby darting amongst the branches, and if you’re lucky, a pygmy seahorse clinging tight to a gorgonian. The small giant clams and fluted clams are particularly vibrant here, adding pops of electric blue and green against the muted coral backdrop. This site is fantastic for macro photographers who appreciate a healthy reef. It’s a gentle drift, making it suitable for divers who prefer to take their time and really soak in the details rather than battle a current.
