Coral Reef - Sumatra

Coral Reef on Sumatra’s north side, near tiny Koh Ha, is a proper easy-going dive. We usually drop in deep, around 30 metres, and then let the reef slowly bring us up towards the shallows. It’s ideal for a relaxed dive, especially if you’re getting back into the swing of things, or even if you’re just keen on a long, slow bottom time. Down in the sand, we almost always find a few Kuhl’s stingrays, masters of disguise, with only their eyes giving them away. As you get shallower, the reef comes alive. Keep an eye out for the Flashlight Fish in the small crevices; they’re pretty shy but worth the wait. We’ve also had some fun spotting Big-spot Anglers here, perfectly camouflaged against the corals. Look closely for the smaller stuff too, like the Goldmann's Sandgoby darting around its burrow or the vibrant Blue-ribbon Wrasse. It’s a site that rewards a slow pace and a keen eye. Our favourite time to dive here is late morning, just as the sun starts to properly illuminate the shallower coral gardens.
