Lumba Lumba - Sumatra
Lumba Lumba is the kind of dive centre you settle into for a week, maybe two. It’s got that low-key, comfortable vibe we always look for, run by a Dutch-Indonesian team who really know their stuff and, crucially, know the local currents. We love that they keep things simple: good diving, good food, and a relaxed atmosphere, making it a perfect pick if you want to dial down the fuss and just enjoy some excellent diving around Pulau Weh. The diving around here is all about current, and Lumba Lumba’s guides are masters at reading it. They'll drop you in the right spot, letting you drift past schools of barracuda and trevally, often swirling so thick they look like silver tornadoes. One of our favourite sites is the Canyon; it’s a proper washing machine sometimes, but the payoff is massive schools of fusiliers and unicornfish, plus the chance of bigger pelagics cruising through. We’d suggest staying a few days to really get the rhythm of the place and let them show you the best of the tides. Early morning dives often bring the clearest water and fewer other boats, a little insider tip for those keen on catching the reef waking up.
