HMS THANET - Tioman Island

Tioman’s HMS Thanet is one of those wrecks that really sticks with you. Dropping down, the sheer scale of the destroyer takes over, lying on its side at 26m. You can practically feel the history here, picturing it going down in 1942. We love nosing around the stern, where the torpedo tubes are still visible if you know where to look. It’s not just a steel hulk either; the structure provides shelter for loads of fish. Giant groupers eye you from dark corners and schools of fusiliers swirl overhead, so thick they sometimes block out the light from the surface. Our pick for a good dive here is early morning, before the currents pick up too much. It’s a site that suits experienced divers who appreciate both history and healthy marine life.
