COLLIN ROSE - Anilao

Collin Rose is less a wreck dive and more a dive *on* a wreck. She’s a big girl, this steamship, beached right on the shore back in ‘70, almost daring you to come explore. You start in the shallows, finning over the very top of her superstructure, maybe even spotting some of the locals spearfishing from the exposed bits if the tide is low. What we really love is how the stern section has become this epic artificial reef. Schools of fusiliers are so thick here, they'll often block out the light, darting between the rusted metal. Our favourite spot is around the propeller and rudder, where the structure is at its most intact, covered in beautiful soft corals and anemones. Look for scorpionfish camouflaged on the plating and nimble nudibranchs grazing the algae. It’s a multi-level dive, really; you can spend ages in just a few meters, watching gobies and blennies flit about, or drop deeper along the hull to see bigger jacks cruising past. Collin Rose is perfect for photographers, especially macro fans who appreciate the contrast of the wreck’s decay against the vibrant new life. Just remember to check the currents; they can pick up, particularly around the deeper sections of the hull.
