KONAN MARU NO.8 - Palawan
The Konan Maru No.8 is a solid wreck dive, especially for those looking to get a feel for a sunken vessel without venturing too deep. This factory ship lies mostly intact, an honest wreck that doesn't demand technical skills but still rewards careful exploration. We love how accessible it is, with its shallower sections inviting longer bottom times, giving you plenty of opportunity to poke around the superstructure and cargo holds. Drop down and you're immediately greeted by the hull, now draped in soft corals and sponges. Schools of rabbitfish often hang around the midship, darting into the shade of the decks as you approach. Our favourite part has to be the bow, where the outline of the anchors is still visible, encrusted with history. Look closely and you might spot a moray eel peeking from a crevice, or a flamboyant nudibranch inching its way across the metal. It’s a great site for photographers keen on macro subjects against a dramatic backdrop, or divers who just want to soak in the atmosphere of a ship reclaimed by the sea.
