GINA III - Koh Lanta & Phi Phi

Gina III isn't for everyone. Let's be clear, this is a shallow wreck, topping out at just 4 metres. But don't let the depth fool you into thinking it's dull. This 140-metre cargo ship, which went down back in '92, is incredibly spread out and broken, creating an artificial reef that’s really taken hold. We love coming here, especially on a sunny day when the light penetrates everything. You'll find yourself drifting over twisted metal plates and huge sections of hull, now completely encrusted with corals. Schools of snapper and fusiliers are usually schooling around the larger sections, and we've often spotted giant moray eels peeking out from under the broken decks. It's fantastic for photographers looking for interesting light play and wreck silhouettes, and even better for snorkelers or freedivers wanting to explore a substantial piece of history just below the surface. We'd suggest going early in the morning before any boats arrive to get the best of the light and the marine life.
