Sea Fun Divers - Similan Islands
The team at Sea Fun Divers are based out of Phuket, which is a great jumping-off point for the Similans. We appreciate that they’ve got their own boat, purpose-built and capping divers at 20. It means you get a bit more elbow room topside than on some of the bigger, packed day boats you see heading out to Koh Bida Nok. We’ve had some fantastic moments with them, particularly on the Similan trips; that feeling of the warm spray on your face as you cut through the Andaman Sea, knowing a whale shark could just cruise by at any moment. They’re solid for any PADI course, from your first breaths underwater to going pro. Our pick for them, though, is their Similan liveaboard trips. It’s where they really shine. You get to wake up surrounded by those iconic granite boulders, slip into the water before the day-trippers arrive, and find yourself eye-to-eye with a hunting giant trevally or watching a ribbon eel undulate from its crevice. When the currents are running, and you’re flying over a reef thick with fusiliers, it’s a real rush. Plus, their instructors are patient, which helps if you’re a bit rusty or getting your Open Water.
