Captain Nitros' Drop-off - Victoria

Fisherman's Rock is one of those spots we keep coming back to. It’s a proper pinnacle, rising from the deep, with one side spilling onto the main reef and the other dropping away into the big blue. We love drifting along the top, maybe 10-15m, where the soft corals just explode with colour – purples, pinks, oranges, swaying gently in the current. You’ll spend most of your time with your head on a swivel, watching for the bigger stuff that cruises past. We’ve seen giant trevally flash through, and once, a curious silver tip shark made a wide pass. Below the surface, the sound is a low hum of water and snapping shrimp. Keep an eye out for the smaller residents too; the pearl-spotted wrasse flitting around the coral heads are always a treat. Our favourite time to dive it is mid-morning, just as the sun really starts to hit those soft corals. It's not a difficult dive, mostly a drift, but we'd suggest it for divers comfortable in a bit of current, just to fully appreciate the flow over the pinnacle.
