Kapalua Beach is one of those spots we always point people towards when they’re looking for a relaxed dive in Maui. It’s shallow, topping out around 9m, which makes it perfect for longer dives or for easing back into things after a travel day. We love slipping in here mid-morning, after the early beachgoers have settled in but before the afternoon rush. What makes Kapalua really click for us is the reef just off the beach. It’s a busy little neighbourhood, often with dozens of Green Turtles just munching away on the algae, completely unbothered. You’ll weave through coral heads and rocky formations, keeping an eye out for Leopard Blennies peeking from crevices or a Giant Moray peering out. Visibility often hits 15m, sometimes more, especially on a calm day, giving you plenty of light to appreciate the vibrant corals and the schools of Bluelined Surgeonfish zipping past. It’s a genuinely peaceful dive, best suited for those who appreciate the smaller details and the company of turtles.
