Blue Maomao Arch (Bay of Islands) - Bay of Islands

E6 is a classic Somosomo Strait dive, a substantial pinnacle rising from the deep, breaking the surface at low tide. We’ve found it busy, but for good reason. Down to its maximum 22m, the corals are healthy, with plenty of soft corals swaying in the often mild currents. Look for the resident fluted and small giant clams, and keep an eye on the blue – we’ve seen whitetip reef sharks cruising past, and there’s always a chance of something bigger like a scalloped hammerhead or even a shortfin mako in the right season. It's a great spot for solid wide-angle photos, especially when the light is good.
